This 1990 Suzuki Samurai, owned by zuki4x4, has an estimated 90 horsepower. All of this truck’s torque and power comes from a stout 1.3L engine. About my Samurai
Purchased 2 Sami's, 1988 & 1990 a year ago. Stripped the '88, frame was shot, and used parts to complete the '90. Took me a year but finally have my Zuki on/off the road. This winter I will be doing an engine/transmission swap. Putting in a Honda B18 with matching trans. Should get 150 hp out of it, thats what my mechanic friend says. Also going to raise 3 inches to put 31 compromise on. Had it out for first time 4 weeks ago, never did find a place to get stuck.
6/4/10 well, I have had a change of plans. Dont think I will replace engine after all. A week ago lost a couple piston oil rings and started blowing smoke bad. I am now in the middle of rebuilding motor and replacing clutch. Tomorrow if all goes well I will be driving my Zuki home. If your looking for Zuki parts there are several good places I have been dealing with. All have been super with customer service and quality parts. 1A Auto 1aautomotive.com, CNS Autoparts of S El Monte in California, G & G Mechanical out of California also, and New Clutch of Los Angeles. I found those 4 on that big online auction site. I also added a Zor windshield bra that I purchased from Roadless Gear who has a great selection of parts for your Zuki, Jeep or Toyota 4X4's. Cant wait to be on the road again.......Come on Saturday!!
6/6/10 Its Sunday and I have put about 60 miles on new engine. Still smoking a bit but my mech friend says to expect that for a few days. Purrs like a cat. Gonna get my break in miles on it and then head to a town called New Athens in Illinois. There is a 4x trail along the Kaskaskia River I have been told about. Gotta see what my Zuki will do. AH!!!! Its good to be back in the drivers seat.
6-13-10 Got my lift shackles from Stoney's Off Road (on ebay) today and am now looking for the bushings. Found a couple places to check out. Gonna raise her two inches and put on some decent on/off road tires. After that its just some cosmetics that I want to do and I will call my Zuki a completed project. Cant wait to put her through the paces.
6-12-10. Damn my luck. Engine problems still. tried to get by cheap when replacing rings. Now I am getting a complete valve job done. Pain in my )(*&^ but I guess I deserve it. Will get head back in a few days and try it again.
6-18-10. Got my head back and its now on Suki. Running good, still smoking, but running. I talked to my mech friend and am told that I need to put some miles on engine, like a good 500 break in, before I need to worry about smoke. Hope it works.
6-22-10. Does it ever end? Giving my Zuki a good run on highway last night. have 140 miles on rebuild. Everything is fine till I come to off ramp. As I slow down I start to hear loud engine noise. Pull over but cant really see anything. I take it in to my friends shop today and find that exhaust pipe just below manifold has hole in it. Also cat converter is coming apart. Cut the cat out and replaced with a piece of pipe and welded up hole on upper pipe. So far so good. Beginning to think I have the money pit. Good thing I quit drinkn and smokin. Cant afford all three.
6-28-10 Today I ordered leaf spring bushings from Car Parts Wholesale 866-828-4322 to go with my Stoneys lift shackles. Also ordered a set of four 1.5" wheel spacers from Sscramblin (ebay name) (909) 825-2818 for 118.00 with free shipping. Very friendly and extremely easy to deal with. Also today I bought a set of 4 used, look new, Ford aluminum wheels for 100.00 and a set of four 30 x 9.5 Firestone AT tires from Buster, a local tire dealer. Tires are used but not by much. Owners son test mounted each tire and checked for any bad spots, bulges or any other damages. Water dunk for leaks and then balance tested. This was all done before he would accept them from a supplier. Buster doesnt normally take in tires of this size but his son knew I was looking for some. All are perfect and I am getting them for 120.00. Thats customer service to an extreme and a great price too. As soon as spacers and bushing get here I will be installing parts and then putting tires on. My friend from Tennessee has invited me to a place near Ellington Missouri for a week long 4 wheelin camp trip in late July. I should be about ready to try my rig out.

I just bought an 87 sammy. Its got 15" wheels and I want to find quad tires to put on them. I considered making my own wheels using the bolt patern from the stock wheels, and the rim from atv wheels. Do you know where I can find tires for my truck?
